Wulfenite ps. Anglesite

This is an exceptional example of a very rare pseudomorph from Tsumeb. In fact this is one of few wulfenite after anglesite pseudomorphs we've seen from here and it's beautiful! Several larger, tabular plates of what are now wulfenite (a lead molybdate), along with a few smaller ones, have replaced anglesite (a lead sulfate) in their entirety. In this pseudomorph, the lead cation remains the same, however, the anion changes from a sulfate to a molybdate during the replacement process! The colorful wulfenite is just eye-catching with its yellow color, numerous tabular crystals and all of the geometric designs on the wulfenite faces! Most crystals are a centimeter or less, however, the largest one is 2.1 cm in maximum dimension. There is actually a convergence of the three largest crystals that form a boxwork-like "steeple" with an almost hollow interior that contains a few, platy wulfenite crystals! There is a small sliver of matrix on the back and the crystals are in perfect condition! We first obtained this piece circa 2000, from the original and most significant collection of Tsumeb minerals assembled by Marshall and Charlotte Sussman. It was in their choice miniatures suite of 100 pieces, adjacent to the famous display cases of cabinet specimens at the time. This was purchased by them from a collection in Africa, shortly before. It has, since then, been in the Young collection for two decades. We have seen a few others of this replacement, but smaller and only partial. This is, in person, colorful and sparkling, and also very 3-dimensional (surprisingly so, I would say). Comes with a custom lucite display base.
