Braunite with Calcite$4,500.00

If, like me, you are fascinated by manganese minerals you will know how rare it is to see Braunite in crystals visible to the naked eye.
The N'Chwaning mines in South Africa have provided the mineral collecting world with many 'best of' species and relatively recent discoveries of exceptional Braunite crystals continue that trend. This specimen might be miniature in size, but it is a stunning example of what Braunite crystals can look like. For a Braunite miniature this is about as close to perfection as you will find and is already a classic.
Comprising crystals of white Calcite it is the abundant prominent, glossy black, thick tabular crystals of Braunite sat upon its surface which really catch the eye. The Braunite forms exceptional 'chunky' tabular, glossy, black crystals (to 1 cm on edge and about 6 mm wide) which contrast beautifully with the underlying white Calcite crystals. Although labelled as N'Chwaning mines this distinctive form of Braunite was reported by Cairncross and Beukes in their 2013 book "The Kalahari Manganese Field the adventure continues..." as being found in 2009/2010 in N'Chwaning II mine.
