Just the name Eagle's Nest mine conjures up visions of stunning sculptural Native Gold. This iconic Californian Gold locality has produced many remarkable specimens of crystallized Native Gold, the very best being perched gracefully upon contrasting white vein Quartz. This miniature specimen is repaired but looks magnificent. Its crowning freestanding flame-like growth of crystallized Native Gold stands over 2 cm tall above its matrix with the main mass of Native Gold extending to about 5 cm across the specimen. The Native Gold has a really rich bright yellow-gold metallic appearance and the freestanding display is extremely well-crystallized with a fine hoppered octahedral crystal along with elongated crystals. Even the Quartz matrix has character, with distinctive patches of dappled orange-brown iron oxides. A miniature, but highly prominent Eagle's Nest Gold. Ex Robert Brandstetter collection.
