With the reputation for having some of the best Calcite specimens in the United States, it's no surprise the Elmwood Mine would have stunning pieces like this would come up every now and again! This specimen was able to catch Dan's experienced and curative eye, presenting a near perfectly formed, doubly-terminated, twinned scalenohedron that is free of any matrix or prior attachment. The center of the Calcite is a light cognac color that grades outward to a rich amber-orange along the edges and terminations; all throughout, the crystal has an extremely high degree of transparency, which pairs nicely with its strong glassy luster. A handful of minor aggregates are interwoven around the central and lower portions of the specimen. The amber-orange zones will lightly fluoresce orange under shortwave UV light. This piece comes with a custom acrylic base.
