Galena and Pyrite
Galena and Pyrite from Joplin Field, Illinois, USA. 20th Century.
The best examples of Joplin galenas are characterized by sharp, lustrous, sizeable cubes. This handsome example consists of two large, sharp galena cubes that have intergrown “just so,” in a natural composition that puts their excellent form on full display. Their silvery color and metallic luster are wonderfully complemented in tone and contrasted in texture by golden, shimmering pyrite.
