Description
This is a unique and classic style from the 1980s called “the Mint Green" apophyllites and they remain unique and recognizable by their color, style, and elegant white bladed stilbite association, to this day 40 years later! It was among the first major discoveries of world-class apophyllite - at the time, such Indian minerals and superb examples of apophyllite in general were unknown to most collectors in the West. when these hit the market in the early 1980s they were priced like gold (one from this find was my own first $1000 rock in 1984). Long in the Jack Halpern collection, this is like seeing a time capsule! It is very different in aspect from those we see today from modern mining in the northern districts, to the north of Pune. This quarry is actually long closed and the particular look is only seen on these old specimens. Pristine, this has a major cluster of 7 x 6 cm atop, and a dramatic doubly-terminated cluster (nearly 4 cm) below. The elegant snow-white and translucent stilbite blades, and the accenting sparkly matrix of ivory-white stilbite, set off the mint green so nicely. While apophyllite may be common in today's world, a historic piece like this will always stand out.
Known provenanceKnowing where your specimen comes from and who owned it adds to its story and value. Good provenance helps prove it's authentic and preserves important details about its discovery.
