Description
A large fluorescent Calcite specimen from 1970s-1980s finds in Mexico, this is from the collection of Richard "Dick" Heck of Indiana. He was well known in the Midwest for his taste and style of collecting undamaged aesthetic specimens at a time when this was not as fashionable in that part of the country. His taste was always considered fine and he was a large buyer of Mexican lots simply to cherry pick a few and liquidate the rest as he facilitated the growth of his broad collection of contemporary Mexican minerals. This big, beautiful cabinet Calcite has a big and robust five and a half inch Calcite of very unique shape! It's actually a big scalenohedron that great zoning with a large, more translucent, pinkish central area surrounded in part by a more whitish pink, quarter-inch thick rim! Even more, the form is made much more interesting by being doubly terminated and by multiple small scalenohedrons in parallel growth! There are also two modest sized, nearly three inch sidecar scalenohedrons, one on each side. This was kept by Dick for the fancy, unusual pattern of the crystals and, presumably, the interesting fluorescence.
