Description
This sharp and balanced specimen is an early export from China (through Ken Roberts in this case), back in the 1990s when minerals were only just starting to come out. It features a beautiful and robust, deep cherry red crystal of cinnabar measuring 1.7 x 1.5 x 1.5 cm, perched smartly on contrasting matrix of dolomite. These old matrix specimens, of this style, are few and far between, today. At the time, these were new and rare and extremely valued - as if platinum (old dealer price tag shows a $4000 price, from the time when they first came out and people would pay anything for one!). Old prices on cinnabar have fallen as it became more common, to be sure; but this is also a fine specimen in its own right.
