Description
This is a very aesthetic small cabinet sized piece featuring clusters of Clinochlore crystals with Feldspar. In older eras, these robust crystals were thought to be a species and named Penninite, as you sometimes see on old labels. Clinochlore is one of the most common members of the Chlorite Group and occurs abundantly in various rock types throughout the world, but rarely in large or good crystals as shown in this piece. There are at least a dozen, deep green, semi-lustrous, somewhat rounded crystal groups on this three-dimensional piece and each one is composed of numerous, pseudohexagonal Clinochlore crystals from 0.5 to nearly 1 cm. Overall they form an elongate group across the top of the piece along another group at the front. They contrast well with the flesh colored, 3 to 5 mm Feldspar crystals at the base of the piece. This is an excellent example of the species! Robert Trimingham to Rock Currier (via Rob Lavinsky). Ex. Currier collection piece #8542.
Known provenanceKnowing where your specimen comes from and who owned it adds to its story and value. Good provenance helps prove it's authentic and preserves important details about its discovery.
