Calcite
Calcite is one of the world's commonest mineral species and yet it is remarkable that specimens from one mine can be so instantly recognizable - that being Elmwood mine, Carthage, Smith County, Tennessee, USA. This small cabinet specimen displays the characteristic gemmy orange tip to a sharply formed scalenohedral crystal. The lower half of the specimen/crystal is somewhat deformed, where it has grown in contact with other crystals, but the upper half is extremely gemmy and has real character with internal patternation. Despite the unusual shape to the lower half, there is no damage to the upper - it is in superb condition. A really nicely terminated Elmwood mine Calcite.
