Topaz
Unknown Owner
Imperial Topaz is a variety of Topaz that has a distinctive pink or sherry colour. First named for specimens of pink gem Topaz from the Ural Mountains in Russia during the 19th century, the name spread to orange Topaz from Ouro Preto in Brazil which had actually been mined since the 18th century. The Ouro Preto crystals are very different in form to the blue and colourless Topazes known from elsewhere in Brazil, tending to be narrow prismatic crystals with rounded pyramidal terminations, rarely doubly-terminated. This 5.2 cm long Imperial Topaz crystal is remarkable for its rich intense orange colour, glassy interior, perfection in form, and sheer size, but have you ever seen one this size doubly-terminated? It is pretty much the perfect Imperial Topaz crystal.
