Boracite
A 12 mm wide, pale grey, pseudocubic Boracite crystal in matrix (probably Anhydrite) from the Type Locality at Lüneburg, Lower Saxony, Germany. The crystal is large for the species and shows good overall form. Although Boracite crystallizes in the orthorhombic system its crystals often look cubic, or in this case a cube with the edges bevelled. There are a number of natural holes within the crystal, probably the result of the dissolution of an associated soluble salt mineral long ago. A fine small miniature or very large thumbnail specimen of an unusual borate mineral.
