Dramatic, elongated piece of thick vein gold from this famous, storied, historic locality. Note that it formed in a tight vein, and yet you can see the latticework shapes of crystals, exhibiting elongated spinel twins all constrained to grow together in a flat surface. Classic Farncomb Hill material from the historic 1880s gold rush days! More was found in spurts later, but only rarely. Most of the specimens of this type are a century or more in age. It was apparently found in an old collection in the early 1990s and sold to the private owner by Bryan Lees at the time. 33.85 g.
