Perched aesthetically on two shards of limestone is a super gemmy, twinned, Calcite crystal measuring 7.5 cm in length from the famed Elmwood zinc mine in Tennessee. The termination and a couple of the steep scalenohedral faces of this glassy crystal exhibit a fine cognac color while the body of the crystal is a delicate amber color. Technically this crystal is doubly terminated as the two shards of matrix truncate the lower termination, but a small, lower termination is present between the two planar shards! The twin plane is intricately aesthetic as it runs along the middle of the crystal on one side, and then abruptly drops down to the lower part of the crystal as it makes its way around it. The piece is quite dramatic and elegant in the way it sits on one shard and the other shard juts out of the crystal as if it is levitating! Very elegant. This was in my own personal collection in the 1980s or perhaps the early 1990s when I was collecting only calcites for myself. I rediscovered my collection during COVID and sent this to the lab for a nice cleaning. Now it is presented for the first time for sale in decades.
