Chalcocite (classic USA locale) Illustrated!
This miniature Chalcocite is complete all around and was considered one of the best in its size range by the man who owned the most of them, F. John Barlow. It is illustrated in the book featuring his collection, "The F. John Barlow Mineral Collection", in the special near-to-his-Wisconsin-heart chapter on the Flambeau mine on page 377: "A superb miniature composed of a group of intergrown, sub-parallel plate-like crystals of lustrous brassy yellow to violet-colored Chalcocite. The faces of the main 2.5-cm crystal have triangular faces... a classic miniature from the Lucky Friday Pocket." Later, in 1999, it went from the F. John Barlow collection to the Dr. Ed David collection. It is a beautiful piece that is much better in person! The strong LED light in the studio actually makes it less colorful than in person, with its natural iridescence having more subtle tones. A superb example, one of the best in size class.
