Mirror-like luster dominates both side of this sharp Hematite rosette from the historic colonial Portuguese mining town of Ouro Preto in the Serra do Espinhaço mountains in Minas Gerais State. A bright, one and a half inch fan of Hematite crystal dominates this piece and is accompanied by several other Hematite plates in tight, lamellar, parallel growth on the front with slight curvature to this side. The backside is a nearly flat surface with mirror-like luster and the edges of the fanned crystals have a satin luster. There is trace of peripheral edge wear as is typical for most of these and then a small point of contact on this sharp miniature that sits perfectly for display. Gorgeous miniature of a classic, but now rare style.
