Not only is Merelani noted for Tanzanite, but also for its beautiful gem Diopside of a quality that makes them gem crystals instead of just "rock forming minerals" as they are from so many other locations. This bright apple-green, two inch Diopside crystal is lustrous and translucent to gemmy and has minor graphite adhering to its base and this lovely crystal has a mass of 19.24 grams. Accompanying the crystal as a rough-and-cut set is a bright yellow-green cut stone weighing 2.73 carats (10.4 x 7.7 x 5.3 mm). Together, the crystal and the cut stone for a nice display. This is an old set from the 1990s and was in the portion of the Hoppel collection (which had a group of approximately 150 rough and cut sets) sold to us directly and that did not go to auction at Heritage Auctions back in 2012-13.
