This relatively rare and unusual locale has produced the largest Hessonite variety of Grossular Garnet yet seen from this part of the world; this find was in 2010-2011. The color has an unusual peachy-orange hue in person, quite distinct from most Garnet and reminiscent of some Jeffrey Mine material, but more orange. It is really a big, showy Grossular of unusual quality and style, all around! The luster is moderate, not glassy, but the faces are sharp and the big crystal here is 4 cm across! It looks like a faceted golfball on matrix. I believe this to be a fairly major Pakistani Garnet specimen from a fairly major discovery that seems to have come and gone with a unique impact in the size class. Collector Gene Meieran bought this directly from a source in this part of the world and later passed it on to me by exchange from his own collection. Gene has built, and maintains, one of the top and largest collections of Afghani-Pakistani minerals in the world.
