A very showy, thick "iron rose" of Hematite from the classic Ouro Preto District in Brazil. This is a style of hematite crystallization more often associated with "Alpine Type" deposits such as the high mountains of Switzerland or Pakistan, and super rare from Brazil or in any kind of large size! The parallel-growth, hexagonal blades on this specimen have excellent, splendent, metallic silvery-black faces forming the classic "rose" shape that makes these specimens so desirable. The larger crystal has two subgroups of Hematite plates in parallel growth and there is a sidecar pair of slightly larger size and similar habit. This excellent piece is complete-all-around and has only modest edge wear at the periphery, expected and that isn't too distracting due to the satin luster on the edges of the Hematite plates. Recovered in late 2023.
