A bubbly, botryoidal miniature of translucent to opaque, zesty apple green Smithsonite on a Goethite gossan matrix. This most attractive specimen is from the Kamariza mines in the Lavrion mining district of Greece. These mines are situated on the Attica Peninsula of southern Greece, only 40 km or so from the capital Athens. Many mines in the area date back to the ancient Greek period beginning between the 12th to 9th century BCE and provided the wealth which funded the growth of the ancient Greek civilisation along with its military might. The contrast between the green Smithsonite spherules, their stunning colour and the chocolate brow matrix make this an outstanding specimen. It’s a rare colour for these mines and comes mounted on an acrylic base.\n
