Crystal ClassicsFeatured
Tucson, Arizona, USAA magnificent cabinet display specimen of tea-green to light sage-green druses of 1 mm Smithsonite crystals completely covering a 10 x 9 cm somewhat triangular display face. From the world-renowned Cu-Pb-Zn-Ag mine at Tsumeb in the Oshikoto Region (formerly Otjikoto Region) of Namibia, the smithsonite coats a snow-white micro-crystalline Calcite surface covering a matrix of orange-tan mixed Calcite and Dolomite. Under low magnification the Smithsonite can be seen to form rhombic dodecahedrons with tiny pentagonal faces; these catch the light to give an overall sparkling lustre to the specimen. This is an exceptional specimen of drusy Smithsonite from the Tsumeb mine, enhanced by its vivid yet delicate limey-green colour.
