Wow! I thought I'd seen some good Cobaltoan Calcites over the years, but this is a jaw dropper without question! As the accompanying dimensions indicate, at 17.5 x 13.5 x 8.8 cm this single crystal is certainly not for the feint hearted and requires centre-stage in which to display! It is from the Dal'negorsk mining region in the Far-Eastern Region of Russia. This single scalenohedral crystal is of uniform light bubble gum to coral pink with a slightly paler tip to the termination. It is translucent and the surfaces are covered with growth patterns, all with the most aesthetic glassy lustre. Scattered across the back face are remnants of a white Calcite matrix and towards the base these form parallel blades to 3 cm long encrusted with 2 mm scalenohedral crystals in parallel-growth.
