Tucson, Arizona, USAThe famous mining district around Touissit is at the far eastern extremity of Morocco, only about 5 km from the Algerian border. This extraordinary Wulfenite is a striking example, yet typical of Wulfenite from this area in terms of its colour and crystal habit. The prominent display crystals average between 1.7 and 2 cm on edge and form square tabular crystals of opaque rich tangerine-orange with a buttery toffee caramel quality and towards one end begin to grade into areas of acidic lemon. Each crystal is about 2 mm thick with bevelled edges; some with steep obvious bevels and other with shallow, more subtle tapering edges. All have a brilliant glassy reflective lustre which contrast beautifully against the background of the smaller saffron-yellow Wulfenite crystals with a satin to matt lustre. This is a specimen displaying complex architecture, colour change and variation of texture due to the play of light. A sublime Wulfenite from Touissit in Morocco.
