Tucson, Arizona, USAMarcasite crystals form a roughly 3.5 x 3.6 x 2.7 cm ex-matrix cluster from Cap Blanc-Nez in France. Cap Blanc-Nez, situated 13 km east of the centre of Calais, is a coastal outcrop where the high chalk cliffs meet the English Channel. The Marcasite forms both equant and flattened pyramidal crystals to just over 1 cm, all with a bright metallic lustre. All crystal faces tend to have a smooth band adjacent to their face-edges, then become covered in epitaxially aligned equilateral triangular growth patterns. A superb nodular group of wonderfully developed Marcasite crystals.
