Ludlockite
A small thumbnail sliver of mixed grey-black, iridescent Germanite-Chalcocite-Tennantite ore completely encrusted with micro-acicular needles of the rare lead-iron arsenite Ludlockite, from its type locality at the Tsumeb mine, Namibia. The Ludlockite crystals are bright apricot-orange, a colour which could also be described as copper-orange. A small creamy-beige crystal of Calcite sits within the Ludlockite. Under high magnification, no zincian Siderite can be seen between the Ludlockite needles, but more detailed examination could be worthwhile. This delicate specimen comes protected in a small circular plastic gem box.
