Most specimens of Tarbuttite from the Skorpion mine came out a over a decade ago in a rush and a flurry, and many collectors missed the opportunity. We have a terrific specimen from this find, the specimen measuring to 5 cm in diameter. The Tarbuttite crystals have completely clustered over the display face of the matrix, forming a integrated flower like criss-cross of intergrown fan-shaped crystal groups of a light sea green colour. The crystal terminations are gemmy, with a glass-like appearance dusted with frosted prism faces. A matrix of banded manganese oxides forms the base on which the Tarbuttite has crystallized. The accompanying video shows this specimen in white LED light and ultraviolet light. Once exposed to UV the Tarbuttite fluoresces a fairly uniform, pale apricot orange, a delicate and most attractive colour. A fine, pretty, crystallized specimen of a very unusual species.
