Tucson, Arizona, USAA truly classic Cobaltoan Smithsonite from 26 Level in the Tsumeb mine in Namibia. 26 Level was in the upper section of the Second oxidation zone and when mined in the early 1970s, this zone became famous for its spectacular pink Cobaltoan Smithsonites with modified crystal morphology. This delightful specimen is a druse of large, highly-modified rhombohedral crystals, some to over 2 cm across covering shallow vugs in a grey sulphide matrix, probably dominated by granular anhedral Chalcocite. The specimen is made particularly attractive by the subtle yet distinctive colour variations that range from pale flesh pink to deep bubble gum pink. Colour gradation gives the specimen a blushed appearance, making it a highly desirable example of Cobaltoan Smithsonite from Tsumeb.
