Tucson, Arizona, USAThis cabinet specimen of Smithsonite from Tsumeb mine displays quite an unusual and distinctive form. From John Schneider's famous Tsumeb collection it has a remarkable 'wet' lustre. The Smithsonite forms a thick creamish coloured layer upon darker matrix with the upper surface coated in crystals. The crystals are thin and lenticular, with an almost bladed and curved shape, with prominent orange inclusions along the top 'ridge' of each. They exceptionally reach nearly 2 cm in length. The zonation and lustre is most unusual and will make a fine addition to a Tsumeb Smithsonite suite.
