Crystal ClassicsFeatured
Tucson, Arizona, USAA gorgeous bubble gum pink translucent Cobaltoan Smithsonite from the Tsumeb mine in Namibia. Magnificent large crystals to slightly over 1 cm cover a thin matrix of creamy white Dolomite. The Smithsonite forms characteristic slightly curved rhombic prisms intergrown to form two separated domes, one larger than the other, all with a splendid satin lustre. Due to the surface translucency, internal structure and small variations in colour, the crystals exhibit a partial chatoyant schiller effect greatly adding to the overall aesthetic. Without doubt, a fabulous Cobaltoan Smithsonite, possibly from 28 level in the second oxidation zone, although this is inferred and not known for certain.
