NATIVE Gold
Unknown Owner
A specimen of finely crystallised Native Gold as a flattened leaf with included milky-white Quartz, from the lesser known locality of Round Mountain mine, in the Toquima Range of Nye County, Nevada, USA. This large open pit operation is at an altitude of over 4,000 feet and mines a polymetallic orebody containing antimony, arsenic, gold, manganese, mercury, molybdenum, silver, thorium and tungsten. This specimen is a very pale gold, indicating a high silver content and could be named argentiferous gold. Gold and silver form a continuous solid solution series, where the mid-range of eutectic mixture is termed 'Electrum'. The specimen has formed in a constrained fracture and the crystal faces reflect this limited growth space. A great little specimen of silver-rich Native Gold from Nevada.
