Talk about sculptural! This is a superlative small miniature Smithsonite from the Kelly Mine in New Mexico! I don't recall ever seeing one this good in this size. It has the quintessential, incredible kelly blue (Kelly Mine blue!) color with botryoids that are lustrous and translucent! There are several botryoids on the piece varying from 0.6 to 2.1cm across with a few that coalesce to form the larger rounded surfaces. The surfaces of the botryoids are silky and smooth adding texture to the their gorgeous color. Even the backside is intriguing with the concentric banding of the botryoid very evident, some with white centers, others somewhat hollowed out. All in all, this is a superb and aesthetic specimen... not your usual flat plate! So it has color, luster, condition, and shape all going for it... and leaps out in a miniatures suite, I would imagine. Ex. Ken Roberts Collection
