Large and attractive, this is an imposing example of the rare copper species Conichalcite, but in this case it has replaced a really unusually rich cluster of Azurite, in radial crystal roses, on a large matrix! This is a stunningly rare and important pseudomorph from the Christiana Mine in Lavrion, but also important for the species and simply just plain beautiful for the unusual strong color of the mineral itself. The pistachio-green clusters of Conichalcite are intricately detailed in their growth pattern and preserve the original azurite form well, and they sometimes encase embedded, geode-like cavities of Azurite that remain within - a welcome color contrast. The contrast in forms and color between the Azurite and the Conichalcite is dramatic. There is even a layer of lustrous Calcite that adds to the "color party." This outstanding, large small-cabinet specimen was found in November 2020 and kept in the collection of Christos Spiromitros when he sold us much of the rest of the pocket at the time. It should be the best larger example.
