Smithsonite var. Cuprian
This is an excellent example of Cuprian Smithsonite from the great Tsumeb Mine, which produced numerous and significant Smithsonite specimens during its mining heyday. Green smithsonite, caused by copper inclusions, is always among the rarest, particularly as crystals like this. Thousands of bright, lustrous, drusy Smithsonite crystals, with an intense, grass-green color, completely carpet the inner surface of this undulating and 3-dimensional pocket. The scintillating nature of these almost-glassy Smithsonites makes this an exceptionally-aesthetic small cabinet specimen. It is even more desirable so when you consider that Tsumeb is long-closed, and nothing more will be produced from there. This is a palm-sized, gorgeous, 3-dimensional natural pocket of this rare style, with truly intense color beyond the norm.
