Schizolite with Aegirine
NOTE: More recent XRD analysis of like specimens strongly suggests that most of the 'serandite' specimens with this habit and coloration from Mont Saint Hilaire are actually Schizolite. In light of this new information, we have revised the species of this listing. This is an unusual specimen for Mont Saint-Hilaire in the weird style of crystallization, which is probably why it was long kept in the private collection of dealer-collector Charlie Key (i.e. Ludlockite and Keyite). Charlie had an extensive MSH suite, built over 60 years of wheeling and dealing in Canada. Two sets of slightly divergent, pink, bladed crystals to 6.5 cm form a V-shape, and each component to the V is made up of bladed crystals in near parallel growth. Individual blades in each clustered component are just slightly offset relative to one another. Several small, incomplete crystals of jet-black Aegirine are present that cross-cut the blades. Another unusual aspect to the piece is that some of the crystals are partially hollow where broken, making us wonder if it might be a cast after another pre-existing mineral such as catapleiite?!
