In the last decade, the Halite and Sylvite combinations from New Mexico have created quite a sensation, and justifiably so. On this good toenail, the roles are reversed, with the dominant crystal being a 2.1 cm Sylvite. The crystal is quite gemmy, with a somewhat silky luster that subtly shows just how clear the crystal really is. Embedded in the base are several gemmy, blue Halites up to about 2 mm on edge. This is a very good, sharp and competitive specimen of a species that just simplky does not give us good specimens from many places...and no more are coming out. A competitive thumbnail (large toenail/boxbuster size, or a small miniature) and species rarity, this is aesthetic and interesting. See The Mineralogical Record, Vol. 44, #1.
