Smithsonite
There aren't many common species where one single location amongst all actually produces specimens with a look so unique and beautiful as to dominate the species among collectors, but very little is a match for the great Smithsonites from Kelly, and it is easy to see why. Kelly Mine is certainly the most famous locality for rounded (botryoidal ) smithsonite, but more than that it is simply an iconic style in the mineral world, for any find, ever. Kelly Mine is among the great locations of all time and if you do want to own one, it needs to be of quality: The blue color, almost wet luster, and distinct botryoidal habit are classic for the locality, and are definitely all present in this large and showy specimen, in surprisingly excellent condition as well. In particular, the curving growths which are normally rather flattish are so well developed they are virtually stalactitic and 3-dimensional, with the largest reaching an impressive 3.2 cm! Most of these are flattish plates, in other words, but this is not. The crust is very thick, and overall this is a substantial specimen in every way. It is complete and displayable 360 degrees, all around. Excellent aesthetics, and hard to find in this quality. It is an older specimen we found originally in an old collection in Lucerne, Switzerland, in the 1990s.
