192 grams of cutting material, this is a rare multi-colored spodumene (pastel green to pastel pink in zones) from the most famous erratic random find in modern San Diego County history. I met Loren Beebe before he passed away and bought the remaining stash he had, but nothing left at the time (mid 1990s) was as sharp and perfectly formed and balanced, as this crystal which went to Bill Larson previously. The deposit was found by accident while he was hiking! Later, (per MINDAT) three adits, each less than 20 feet long, and one open cut were made. According to Loren Beebe's co-partner Fred Stevens, $500.000 in gem quality kunzite was produced from pockets found between 1974 and 1986. He further stated that several thousand dollars of aquamarine was produced during the early 1980's. From the important and long held personal San Diego County Collection of William "Bill" Larson, longtime owner of the Himalaya Mine, discoverer of the famous Queen Mine BlueCap pocket, and numerous other San Diego mining projects over the last 60 years and more. Please note the color on this is highly variable depending on lighting, as were many San Diego kunzites. Also, some of them get more pink when left out in the sun for a few days. This is Afghan quality by modern standards and yet it is a valid, historic, USA mineral of a great gem species! Irreplaceable today.
