Smithsonite var. Cuprian
This is one of my absolute favorite USA classic finds, for the color and the beauty. This quality was found only once, to my knowledge, in the 1990s. I bought many at the time from George Godas and George Stevens, who collected them. (However, few had this quality to them. A later pocket they found, while larger, had more pale color.) Nearly completely covering its matrix is a thin crystallized crust of botryoidal, lustrous and translucent, apple green smithsonite, with spheres reaching 8 mm across. I particularly like the satiny luster of the smithsonite - among the best luster and color known from this find! I buy every example I can get, when they turn up now in old collections.
