Not one or two but a PROFUSION of twinned calcite crystals, growing together on a single plate! The twins measure to 3 cm across. Though there are a few dings, this can be excused when you consider what a rare thing this is! From the now infamous find of the late 1990s, and the best fishtail twins yet found in China. 13 x 8 x 5.8 cm

Calcite from Leiping Mine, China
from Leiping Mine, in the Leiping area of Guiyang County, Chenzhou, Hunan, is one of the unmistakable modern Chinese calcite styles: lustrous, sharp, often translucent to gemmy crystals animated by warm iron-oxide and hematite color. The best specimens do not rely on size alone. They have architecture—wing-like twins, stacked rhombs, spiky scalenohedral sprays, and multi-generation crystals where clear late calcite wraps or caps an older, rust-red included core.
