Vanadinite
Multi-hued, red Vanadinites like these from Morocco are the epitome of vibrantly-colored minerals. Can anyone get enough of colorful red minerals? This happens to be a great matrix specimen of an admittedly common find, but nevertheless special. The contrasting matrix is host to an elongate group of Vanadinite crystals that exhibit color zonation and skeletal growth. The large, 2.3 cm crystal exhibits a dark red inner zone, followed by a somewhat gemmy red-orange zone and then a dark red rim. The sides, or prism faces, show great skeletal growth features that are pretty deeply recessed into these faces for great geometry and artistic appeal. The smaller crystals are similar, but lack the skeletal growth features. The large crystal is complete and the smaller ones variably so. The bright red Vanadinites against the desirable tan matrix is sublime. From a 2018 pocket.
