The January, 2012 finds of Brochantite from Milpillas, already famous for superb Azurite and Malachite specimens, are considered the best of species. The stout, bladed, deep green crystals of Brochantite here have superb luster, and are highlighted by nice striations and sharp, chisel-point terminations. The larger Brochantites are surroundded by sprays of acicular, electric green Brochantite needles, creating a marvelous contrast. The smelter is now converting to sulfide ore soon, indicating the oxide zone is about mined out. No more superb Azurites, Malachites and Brochantites will be forthcoming. Words can hardly convey just how fine, and aesthetic, this thumbnail truly is. While there are bigger crystals, I cannot imagine any better thumbnail of this find and style, for the mine or the species. It is so incredibly gorgeous in person and is competition level for the species!
