An uncommon Tsumeb Smithsonite thumbnail of an elongated (2.9 cm) scalenohedron that is lustrous, translucent, striated, and buff-colored. Even more unusual than the habit is the matrix. At the base of this impressive crystal is botryoidal Goethite covered with a thin layer of Mottramite. Looking in detail, this is really quite attractive, and interesting. Smithsonite rhombohedrons are much more common at Tsumeb than these scalenohedrons, so this is highly desirable of the Smithsonite varietal and locale. Excellent and aesthetic! Complete all around! It is thought that it was from the 1970s.
