A superb and rare Cuprian Smithsonite from the Tsumeb Mine in Namibia, of unusual style: Glassy and gemmy, apple-green, somewhat rounded Cuprian Smithsonite crystals richly cover a silicified and gossanous matrix on this large display specimen. The Smithsonite crystals are between 4 and 5mm in size and occur as small, scattered clusters and more rarely as isolated "rice grain" style crystals. Less than 1mm, bright green, spikey balls of Mottramite crystals are heavily peppered on the matrix prior to the deposition of the Smithsonite and the two greens make this piece "pop"! Tsumeb Cuprian Smithsonite of this quality and rich color is RARE and HIGHLY DESIRABLE, only coming available from prominent collections. Nearly pristine, this has only one small area of minor bruising that doesn't detract. ex Shields and Frances Flynn collection.
