This piece is one of the finest miniatures I have had of the robin's egg blue color, classic old Kelly smithsonite. It is "gem grade" carving material. It is also notable as a fine specimen for its combination of color, luster, and aesthetic curves. From the noted miniatures collection of dealer/collector Ken Roberts. He obtained it from Larry Comnklin, who in turn purchased it in the late 1980s from my own mentor, Ohio collector Carlton Davis, who was known for his superb taste in thumbnails and miniatures, and was my first exposure to a serious collector when I was 12 years old! This actually was the first good Kelly smithsonite I had my hands on, way back in the 1980s. It is pristine and without damage or defect and truly is one of the best in this size class.
