A specimen of cadmium-rich smithsonite, but very different! For one thing, it is a BIG specimen. But more importantly - you can see that only the CORES of the crystals have the orangey color indicating the cadmium content which turns them yellow or orange. The solution in the pocket changed during the growth of the crystals, the cadmium which gave the crystals their color was no longer there, and so the orange cores were wrapped in almost colorless smithsonite! A rich and fascinating specimen from a very famous mine! Ex. Rob Smith collection.
