The last of our Leiping calcites, from a back-room of Chinese dealer earlier this year. These are not coming out anymore, and we are sorry to see them go. These large, pyramidal crystals contain phantoms coated with a mineral that makes them glow red under UV. There is some edge wear on some of the crystals, which you can oil out if you wish (we as a rule do not mask wear or other damage in our pics). 12.7 x 11.5 x 3.7cm

Calcite from Leiping Mine, China
from Leiping Mine, in the Leiping area of Guiyang County, Chenzhou, Hunan, is one of the unmistakable modern Chinese calcite styles: lustrous, sharp, often translucent to gemmy crystals animated by warm iron-oxide and hematite color. The best specimens do not rely on size alone. They have architecture—wing-like twins, stacked rhombs, spiky scalenohedral sprays, and multi-generation crystals where clear late calcite wraps or caps an older, rust-red included core.
