Brightly fluorescent.Heights Quarry, located near Westgate and Stanhope in Weardale, County Durham, England, is situated within a historic mineral-rich region deeply tied to northern England's industrial heritage, featuring Carboniferous limestone strata subjected to hydrothermal activity that deposited rich mineral veins across the North Pennines. Historically, while the broader site and adjacent workings involved extensive limestone quarrying and mid-nineteenth-century iron ore and lead extraction, Heights Quarry and the associated Heights Mine became internationally famous among mineral collectors for producing exceptional specimens of green fluorite, often featuring striking cubic crystals and complex twinning, recovered through mining and quarrying operations that continued across the nineteenth and twentieth centuries.
