Beautiful bluish green gemmy crystals of elbaite on quartz. The Cruzeiro Mine, located in the municipality of Saude dos Matos within the Jequitinhonha Valley of Minas Gerais, Brazil, is one of the world s most famous and prolific gem tourmaline producers. Geologically, the deposit consists of a massive, complex granitic pegmatite swarm intruded into late Proterozoic metamorphic schists, featuring well-developed internal zoning and volatile-rich pockets that allowed the crystallization of magnificent gem-quality tourmalines, particularly elbaite. Historically, commercial operations began in the mid-twentieth century around the 1940s, and the mine has since expanded through extensive underground tunneling systems, establishing itself as a legendary global source for vibrant multicolored tourmaline crystals and fine mineral specimens.
