This historic locality yielded what are widely considered the finest, most vibrant orange spessartine garnets ever discovered in North America. This educational rough-and-cut set offers a unique pairing of the best of both worlds. We have an electric Fanta-orange thumbnail with stepped-growth, etched faces on the surfaces—a nice change from the typical dodecahedron crystals we usually see from here. The thumbnail is a nice-sized example, too, with great gumminess and luster. Paired very nicely with a jewel of a gem cut into an oval round that scintillates and sparkles with each movement. The gem’s body tone is a rich Fanta-orange color, with great clarity and luster. Because the Little Three Mine is permanently closed, acquiring spessartines of this caliber here depends entirely on finding older material when older collections are brought to market.
