An attractive specimen of Cassiterite on Muscovite from the historic tin mines in Galicia, Spain. The piece consists of a large, twinned, slightly striated, Cassiterite crystal group displaying a submetallic luster and measure 4.6 cm across, set upright on a matrix of pearlescent, fine-grained Muscovite. There is one larger 4.6 cm, twinned crystal tightly intergrown with a somewhat smaller, 2.7 cm one that crosses at one end of the cluster. The crystals have distinct, V-shaped, geometric markings on the faces. The tin mines here were operated on a small scale during Roman times and then actively mined by modern methods from the turn of the 20th Century to the 1980s and intermittently since. This is an excellent piece from this less well-known, but classic Spanish locality.
